Prickly Pear Publishing & Nopalli Press
SUBMISSIONS
A notice from Prickly Pear Publishing & Nopalli Press
For the remainder of 2025, we will only accept manuscripts by invitation. However, you are still welcome to submit your work. Please note that our editing team may not review unsolicited submissions until the 2026 publishing cycle, which begins in the last quarter of 2025.
Be ready to tell us why you write. If it is to become famous and/or rich, this is not the press for you. If you write because you must and want to get your poetry, stories, and ideas out into the world, then yes! By all means, submit. We are a small, independent press, so if you're lucky enough to join our publishing family, you become part of the team. You must be prepared to effectively promote your book. We offer significantly better royalties than most other presses, so we expect you to dedicate yourself to promoting your book and making it known to the wider world. If you are comfortable selling your book to your family, friends, and community, we are also okay with that. It's really up to you. We support and encourage the promotion of all the fantastic books we publish and expect authors to take on the lion's share of the endeavor of promoting their books.

We prioritize work by BIPOC writers whose voices have been systematically and historically excluded from the traditional publishing conglomerate. Prickly Pear Publishing believes the world is better when all voices are included, and when BIPOC's stories are told in their own words and fashion. For centuries, our voices have been marginalized at best and excluded at worst.
We accept books in languages other than English. Please send us a note about your project, and we will determine if it's a good fit for us.
Please submit a final, proofread, and well-edited manuscript; if accepted, we will request additional details from you.
Consider the following questions before submitting your work. What dimensions do you envision for your book, and what style do you want the cover to have? What other authors or community leaders can you ask to read your manuscript and give you a good blurb for the book's promotion? Where and how do you plan to promote and market your book?
If you need guidance on these questions, please conduct some research first, check in with other writers, and re-read some of your favorite books by different authors. Check the formats of their books for ideas. If you're still stumped, please send us a note, and we'll get back to you.
